A GoFundMe page said 15-year-old Emily Davis was riding her bike with her brother and a family friend on Ocean Heights Avenue after visiting her mother at her salon on Wednesday, May 8. She was struck by a 2021 Ford tow truck after losing her balance and falling into its path.

Davis was rushed to a hospital and airlifted to Cooper University Medical Center in Camden.

"Some of her injuries include broken legs, fractured pelvis, collapsed lungs, along with many others," wrote Sarah Harrison, the GoFundMe's organizer. "The blessing is testing has shown Emily’s brain function remains intact."

The GoFundMe page had raised more than $17,000 from at least 218 donations as of Thursday, May 23.

"Emily’s parents, Danielle and Jerry, have put life on hold to be with Emily and provide comfort to Emily’s brothers, Dylan and Jake, during this time," Harrison wrote. "Many have asked how they can help the family, so this GoFundMe campaign was started to help with the financial burden the family is going to be facing between loss of work, medical bills, and the future treatments Emily will need to fully recover."

Davis remains in critical condition in the pediatric intensive care unit. The teen has undergone surgeries for her legs, pelvis, intestines, and back.

According to a GoFundMe update posted on Thursday, May 16, Davis was off a ventilator and talking.

"Emily is handling this process like a champ!" Harrison wrote. "The staff is impressed by her resilience and how well she is dealing with this trauma."

Investigators at the scene said the tow truck driver wasn't impaired and didn't drive carelessly or recklessly. The crash was still under investigation and anyone who saw it should call the Egg Harbor Township Police Department at 609-926-2641.
